Yoga & Pilates Courses Online: 11 Tips to Getting the Most Out of Exercising at Home

  • 9 June 2023

I’m actually super excited to talk about why practicing yogalates and taking online yoga and Pilates classes is so worthwhile.

As a busy physiotherapist, clinic owner, mother -and wife I really understand the challenges of staying fit and I tune with my body and mind. With online yogalates there’s no excuses and no looking back! Let’s dive into how and why online yogalates can be part of your life.

Many of us have created our own home studio set up to train, practice yogalates or do an online class at home

In this new age, post pandemic, many people are finding they prefer working out at themselves at home or with online subscriptions.

WHY

Just some of the benefits of Taking Online Yogalates Classes:

  • Your time and Space. Without having the necessity to arrive at a studio at a particular time, you are your own teacher and boss. …
  • Online yogalates offers many options. … and solutions for you to choose from. There are many videos online, just open it what you like and what suits you the besting the day.. a strong flow, a gentle yin, a fundamental class
  • If we factor in our commute time to the yoga and Pilates studio or gym, it can add an extra hour or so to our day. This time could be better spent with our family and friends. Instead of wasting time you can simply head in to your personally designed home gym and get on your mat within a matter of minutes.
  • Working out at home saves you valuable time that enables you the privilege of spending on warming up and cooling down; breathing and meditating…. something many of us avoid or skip because it takes too much time.
  • Great comfort. … Maybe you are not as comfortable doing yoga in the yoga studio or you are finding difficult to focus in a room full of people. Online classes allow you to grow in your practice in a comfortable aura of your home
  • With a home studio comes privacy, You can light a candle, play any music you like, open the windows for a breeze…The only person you would have to please with is yourself! You can also perform or practice any exercise that you may not feel comfortable doing in front of other yogis…Make mistakes, loose balance, modify, keep practising alone in your safe place without any worry of others judging or criticising you.
  • You can press the pause or rewind button at any time and learn at your own pace. Practice and refine a sequence or posture.
  • From the connection with yourself. … As soon as you enter the online classes, you will feel transported into the present self and enjoy your body and soul.
  • Affordable and can do as many classes as you like!
  • You can share the program with family and friends

Once you start practicing yoga and Pilates in the comfort and convenience of your own home, with the guidance of an experienced and expert online instructor you’ll really see the benefits.
If you haven’t already set up a home yogalates studio or gym , then why not give start now? It actually takes up less space and is less costly than you might’ve expected. Times have certainly changed, and it’s not always necessary to sign up for a gym membership to get the most out of your yoga and Pilates.

How

I now want to discuss how to motivate yourself with home yoga and Pilates workouts. As a busy person, I know how incredibly tough practicing yogalates at home may sound because when you’re at home, you may just want to chill out with a green tea or read on the couch but home yogalates is easier than you think — please trust me! I was there before!

Create a schedule – I gave myself a schedule to practice at home yoga and Pilates five days a week. I work from home two days a week so on a break I roll out my mat in my yogalates space to workout. I then do 2 morning 45 min yogalates workouts and often add in a yin or longer yogalates flow on Sunday afternoon.

Tips to stay motivated to workout at home:

  1. Set up a calendar/schedule with yogalates class length and style for each day that you want to do…. Decide WHEN in your day you will do the online class.
  2. Make yourself adhere to that schedule. …by adding this like an appointment to your real life calendar.
  3. Create a dedicated yoga and Pilates space to practice. Check out my blog on how to creat a yogalates space.
  4. Find and subscribe to an online program taken by experienced expert teachers. Many people lack the knowledge of what to do when it comes to yoga and Pilates and how to modify postures or practice with good technique the Be yogalates online yoga and Pilates program Is taken by experienced physiotherapists Try it for a week free now.
  5. Choose an online subscription that has choice of class length Eg. 20 minutes for a quick workout before work, 45 minutes and 1-hour options for a longer yogalates workout and breathwork.
  6. Find an online yoga and Pilates program with a variety of class styles and levels of difficulties. The Beyogalates program has gentle fundamental classes for beginners and stronger power flow for a more challenging yogalates workout.
  7. It’s helpful to set a goal or purpose for your yogalates practice. Try and think beyond the goal of, ‘I want to drop weight’ Think about how you want to feel during and after the session. Eg connected to my body and mind, in control of my movements and thoughts, giving my body what it needs etc you may find that this purpose results in mindful eating and great habit formation. See the blog on how yogalates can change your body.
  8. When practicing online yoga and Pilates regularly at home it’s good to Focus mostly on the process not just the the outcome. Process goals enable you to separate the outcome into daily habits. Instead of saying, “I want to lose a dress size” aim to create the process goal to practice yogalates for 20 mins each day, this will set you on track to your goal, you will have greater success when you make your goals process-driven, not outcome focused.
  9. Use incentives. For example set yourself a three week challenge to practice yogalates as scheduled. Is there something special that will provide you joy and happiness while not undermining your wellbeing? It may be something like a new candle, new workout outfit or a long bath
  10. Get an exercise partner. Log into your online yogalates program at home with family or roll out your mat in a park with! This way you will have someone to be accountable to when you feel like bailing out.
  11. At home doesn’t have to be in–home. Answer the call of nature… Just because you’re home, doesn’t mean you always have to Get outside work-out indoors, enjoy the breeze and gentle sunlight on a balcony, in the garden or by the pool!

There are so many good benefits to practicing yoga and Pilates with an online program at home. Set your wellbeing goals now and get started!

There are two sacroiliac joints; one on either side of the spine. Due to the SIJ’s anatomical structure, its primary function is stability.
... the SIJ acts to transfer weight from the spine to the pelvis and allows a small amount of movement to occur in this area. Very often, either due to injury, lack of movement or overuse; the SIJ can get stuck OR has too much movement which causes dysfunction or pain in the area.
These gentle exercises focusing on the pelvic area, hip muscles and butt can help alleviate pain and improve mobility. And stability...
